Boxing and kickboxing are both combat sports, requiring the combination of strength, agility, balance, and well-honed reflexes for successful practice. Whereas boxing focuses solely on punches and blocks, and therefore puts more emphasis on the upper body, kickboxing encompasses both kicks and punches, as well as strikes, locks, grappling, and throws. Both sports can be practiced for self-defense or general fitness.
