TEENAGE MUTANTS (SUARA)
While his name may evoke childhood memories, there’s nothing comic about his passion for music. Within the space of a few years, Teenage Mutants, the one-man show from Mainz (Germany), has established himself as a serious force in the deep house scene. With his maiden release he achieved what many strive for during a whole career, namely a pole position in the heavily fought over Beatport deep house charts: in early 2013 ‘Hanging On’, a collaboration with OFF founder Andre Crom, went straight to #1. Since then, Teenage Mutants has proven he’s no one trick pony, as releases on Suara, Stil vor Talent, Light my Fire, Kittball, Katermukke and Nurvous cemented his position in the underground. While ‘People’, together with Purple Disco Machine, kicked 2014 off with a bang, another collaboration with his good buddy took the summer by storm – ‘The Path’, a seriously feel-good flute anthem, has been inescapable during the season. The next step? A debut album, of course. Set to be released in 2015 on Oliver Koletzki’s Stil vor Talent label, Teenage Mutants’ first long-player will be the fruit of hard labor – and a massive achievement, bearing his hectic gig schedule in mind. For as a DJ, he has travelled the world: from Johannesburg to Moscow, Miami to Berlin, the name Teenage Mutants stands for quality DJ-sets, always built around a solid groove and a desire to narrate. Cowabunga!
DAVID DORAD (KATERMUKKE)
Every scene has its hypes that come and go; hypes that rise to a euphoric zenith, only to fall once they reach a state of supersaturation. The perfect substrate for this is the esoterically charged club culture of Techno-Mekka-Berlin which threatens to blow at any moment. However, every climax refers to a golden mean. We may not always recognise this constant at first sight, but it is undeniably the basis for every- thing that Berlin ever brought forth.
David Dorad is part of this basis. He is one of the characters that have kept the scene very much alive in the past decades. Born and raised in Halle, he came to the capital city after the reunification as a squatter in 1994 and began DJing. After having foraged through all facets of contemporary music with youthful zest, he commenced to play his first gigs. In 2004 he founded the party collective „Bachstel- zen“ with friends. The great attention to detail and homely atmosphere of their events extended their name well beyond the city limits. For some years now, they have been a constant at the Fusion Festival, too. And wherever the Bachstelzen showed up, the Bar25 was never far behind. At first David Dorad was a guest here, then a DJ and soon a valued friend. Ultimately the in-house booking agency of Bar25 (nowadays known as SASOMObookings) offered him a home base. By now he plays every weekend. And not just within German borders! He‘s well underway in expanding his international status.
