The Experience

Rugged mountain landscapes, ancient monasteries and earlier-age magic are just some of the promising attractions drawing travellers to Bhutan. Steeped in Buddhist traditions, this remote Himalayan kingdom takes pride in a sustainable approach to tourism which makes fulfilling the travel dreams more challenging. This six-day guided tour makes for a great way of exploring the local wonders – pristine nature, mysterious temples, and intricate murals hiding behind the walls of monasteries.

The Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Paro and transfer to Thimpu

• Meet a travel representative who will be the tour guide during the entire trip
• Leisure time to unwind before the days ahead

Day 2: Thimpu

• Head to the Kuenselphodrang, also known as Buddha Point, a lookout point which is home to the world’s largest sitting Buddha statue; visit the on-site temple and take in the panoramic views of Thimpu
• The journey continues to Motithang Takin Preserve, a natural preserve for the takins – Bhutan’s national animals
• Pay a visit to the 12th-century Changangkha Lhakhang temple, a popular pilgrimage destination temple
• The next stop is Semtokha Dzong, a former Buddhist monastery which is now home to one of Dzongkha language learning institutes, and Thangthong Dewachen Nunnery, a monastery built in 1976 and now home to about 60 nuns

Day 3: Thimpu – Punakha

• Head towards Punakha and make a stop en route to sip on some tea at Dochula Pass which, on a clear day, boasts views of the snow-capped Himalayas 
• Visit the Chimi Lhakhang temple built in 1499 by Drukpa Kinley’s (aka Devine Mad Man) best follower
• See Punakha Dzong perched at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and the Po Chhu River; it was constructed in 1638 on the exact spot as prophesized by the Guru Rinpoche

Day 4: Punakha – Paro

• Start sightseeing from one of the country’s best-known landmarks, Rinpung Dzong, a Buddhist monastery and fortress which is believed to be the finest example of Dzong architecture
• Proceed to Paro

Day 5: Paro

• Head out early for a morning hike up to Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest due to its thrilling location on a steep cliff; it is one of Bhutan’s most important monuments of spiritual significance, deeply associated with the visit of Guru Padmasambhava saint
• Later on, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in the country, which dates back to the 7th century BC
• In the evening, browse the local market in search of crafts and keepsakes

Day 6:

• Transfer to the airport; the tour ends

Season A is valid for travel from 1 April to 30 May 2019.
Season B is valid for travel from 1 June to 31 August 2019.
Season C is valid for travel from 1 September to 30 November 2019.
Season D is valid for travel from 1 December 2019 to 28 February 2020.
During Bhutan Festival period, a peak season supplement might be applicable depending on travel date – please check with the Tour Provider prior to purchase. During Christmas and New Year, a compulsory Gala dinner charge will be applicable as per the hotel policy – please check with the Tour Provider for updated rates if your stay is between 24 Dec 2019-1 Jan 2020.
